This Bible Study is taken from Chapter Two: Called To Demonstrate God’s Power of "Working The Works of God" By Andrew M. Nkoyoyo.
Jesus Came To Destroy The Evil One - The Devil.
The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life and that they may have it more abundantly. (John 10:10)
Jesus came to destroy the works of the evil one – the devil. After His resurrection, He appeared to His disciples and declared to them, “All power and authority is given unto Me.” He commanded them to go and spread the Good News and continue His ministry in the earth.
Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. (Matthew 28:19-20)
Amazingly, Jesus did not categorize His disciples and all the people around into different groups according to their capabilities, education, background, experiences, wealth, race, talent and skills. He commissioned everyone to go preach, teach and work the works of God – producing the evidence that Jesus is the Messiah.
You Can Be Faithful to Your God-Given Assignment
We have what we call the five-fold ministry gifts or ascension gifts as mentioned in Ephesians 4:11-14:
And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the Body of Christ, till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting.
Here, Paul, by the Spirit of God, gives a detailed explanation of the purpose of these five-fold ministry gifts to the Body of Christ. The main purpose of these ministries to the Church is for the equipping and perfecting of the saints (believers) for the work of ministry. In other words, God has blessed the Church with these ministries to equip, prepare, train, mentor, activate and release believers into their God-given assignment in the local church and life mission in the world.
Demonstrating God’s power is not limited to pastors, evangelists, prophets, apostles, and teachers, but to everyone who has received and believed in Jesus Christ as his/her Lord and Savior. Jesus said, “Go ye therefore and teach all nations.” That is not necessarily restricted to going to a foreign country to fulfill what Jesus commissions you to do. There are “nations” of people in your place of work, school, college, community, and spheres of influence.
Beloved, you are not alone as you step out to fulfill His Word. You can work the works of God even though you are not a preacher in the common sense of the word. I am confident that you can manifest the supernatural as you share God’s Word with those you meet. Jesus said:
As the Father has sent Me, I also send you. (John 20:21)
He did not just send us out there to struggle, trying to persuade people to believe in Him. He sent us in the fullness of His power. Did Jesus heal the sick, deliver those oppressed and tormented by the devil, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead and cast out evil spirits? Yes, He did! Then you and I are supposed to do likewise. Did He do the works of God? Of course, He did. As a matter of fact, He promised to do greater works through us.
Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. (John 14:12)
He did not only make that promise to theologians, professors, intellectuals, pulpit ministers or the like, but also to ordinary people, like you and me.
