Transformed By His Divine Power Part Three of Four.

This Bible Study is taken from Chapter Three: Transformed By His Divine Power of "Working The Works of God" By Dr. Andrew M. Nkoyoyo

The First-Century Church

The early church was born through the manifestation of the power of God. Paul and the members of the first-century church shook the world because they had power.

And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power. (1 Corinthians 2:4)
Now when the people saw what Paul had done, they raised their voices, saying in the Lycaonian language, ‘The gods have come down to us in the likeness of men.’ (Acts 14:11)

People thought Paul and Barnabas were “gods” because of the power of God that was operating in their lives. They manifested supernatural, miraculous works incomprehensible to the human mind and understanding. They touched the people of their communities and everywhere they went, because of the power of God.

Today, we have a lot of theory, we have a lot of theology, and we have a lot of doctrine. But we do not have the demonstration of the “power” of God.

The church of 2000 years ago was not born by smooth preaching, such as what we have today. Talk is cheap when there is no proof behind what is being said. It is easy to declare that Jesus is the Healer, but can you demonstrate this? Any mouth can declare that demons tremble at the name of Jesus, but can this be demonstrated in the presence of one who is demonized? There must be proof behind our testimony. If there is no proof, then we only declare empty words.

Today, it is easy to preach the Gospel without proving anything to anyone. All you need, in order to be successful in today’s ministry, is to be a graduate of some Bible college or seminary with a degree in preaching. As long as you are a silver-tongued orator, and can articulate your first, second and third points, along with a beautiful conclusion, mingling them with a pleasant, humorous story, you have it done.

I thank God for preachers. I am one as well. We have more excellent preachers in the world these days than we have ever had, but people are still going to hell. Despite all the avenues available to us in the present day for the preaching of the Gospel—from radio and television to other out-reaches—we still cannot stop the influence of drugs, alcoholism, homosexuality, pornography and other evils.

History tells us that the early church reached the entire known world in just 300 years! In other words, everyone in the known world had the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Why? They were operating in the unlimited power of God. Preaching the Gospel was not a struggle because they allowed the power of God to touch others through them, confirming the Word with miracles, signs and wonders.

Jesus said it is not until the entire world has heard the Gospel as a witness that the end will come.

And this Gospel of the Kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come. (Matthew 24:14)
